2HrzThaumatrope: auxiliaries

“auxillaryPlattersStand”

2HrzThaumatrope: auxiliaryPlattersStand [circa 2005]

As suggested, these are a unique collection of auxiliary Thaumatrope two-sided platters; potentially for mounting -and playing“- a variety of alternate animation”stories” atop the 2HrzThaumatrope_centralUnit. Here, a bit disappointingly, most of them are currently tucked away beneath their UV-protective canvases.

But who can say how much persistence of vision the mind would need to smoothly “stream” the transitions and stitch together the alternating faces of each platter? To achieve any sort of useful perceptual coherency while observing the incredibly slow revolutions, a rugged mind’s eye imagination surely helps to satisfy a fulfilling image blending.

And for the Observer, there’s a second requirement: stand incredibly still, or the whole illusion smears into a blur.

And as the saying goes: “Patience is a Virtual”.
