Approach

An open-source approach to tools, technologies, and media sits at the heart of Theo A. Artz’s creative practice. With a fine-arts foundation and deep interests in science, technology, cognitive psychology, and game theory, he brings together curious, inventive mashups of ideas, perception, and process. His work is often shaped by the artifacts that emerge when analog and digital methods collide—where technique, experimentation, and concept blend into something unexpected.

A lot of the magic shows up where analog and digital methods overlap: hand work meeting software, physical materials bumping into virtual logic, and the little “artifacts” that appear when different processes are allowed to talk to each other.

While he’s worked professionally in animation and visual effects, Artz stays rooted in tangible studio work and installations. Drawing from mixed technologies, experimental storytelling, and a lifelong fascination with serialized collectibles, he makes pieces that reward close looking—inviting viewers to follow the breadcrumbs, unpack the embedded narratives, and enjoy the connections and mischief built into the work.
